MKBHD knifes the G Flex, heals it with a little body heat

YouTube personality Marques Brownlee, aka MKBHD, got his hands on an LG G Flex review unit and proceeded to put it to the test. The G Flex may not be the world’s first curved smartphone (the Galaxy Round snatched that title), but it sure has a couple of amazing features we haven’t seen on any other commercial device yet. Marques highlights both of them in his video test, but just in case you can’t watch it for some reason, here’s a briefing. First, the G Flex is, well, flexible. Unlike the Round, which is rigid in its curvature, the G Flex can bend a little if you apply enough force. It’s an amazing capability and watching the device squash and come back to its original form feels like the future. The phone can supposedly withstand up to 40 kilos (about 88 pounds) in weight and bounce back without any problems. Then there’s the self-healing back we’ve first seen demoed in a LG promo video last week. LG used a precisely controlled setup to test the material on the G Flex, which should recover from light scratches in a few minutes. Marques went with something a little more true to life, with the good old keys test, followed by some brutal knifing. Interestingly, because the speed of the healing process depends on the ambient temperature, heating the scratched area will accelerate it. So, when in doubt, just give it a good rub.
