Google put on sale two new Google Play edition devices, the LG G Pad 8.3 and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra.
Earlier today, files from LG’s open source site revealed that a Google Play edition of the G Pad 8.3 was coming, and now we have the real deal. The device is currently available in the Play Store in the United States only, with no word on the extension of its availability in other parts of the world.
The LG G Pad 8.3 GPe comes with a Full HD display that is slightly larger than the Nexus 7’s (now also available in a white option), which means it’s not as crisp as the Asus-made slate, though at 273ppi, it’s probably good enough for most users. A Snapdragon 600 processor and 2GB of RAM ensure that the G Pad 8.3 GPe will blaze through any task you can throw at it. You also get a 4,600 mAh battery and a relatively decent rear camera.
The strongest suit of the G Pad is probably its sleek design, which combines an aluminum backplate with a white polycarbonate. At 8.3mm in thickness and just 338 grams in weight, you get a solid, yet elegant tablet that arguably looks better than competitors in its price range. One extra benefit of picking up a G Pad 8.3 is that you get a microSD card, a feature you don’t get on a Nexus 7 or a Kindle Fire HDX.
