LG is preparing a stylus-equipped version of the G3 that may soon go up against the Note 4.

While the G3 and its predecessors have helped LG secure a strong position in the market – to the tune of an estimated 60 million units in 2014, there’s a niche where LG has failed to make a meaningful impact – productivity-focused phablets. With the G Pro series, LG has tried and largely failed to threaten Samsung’s Note series, and one big reason was the lack of a stylus.

Now LG appears to be working on a stylus-equipped G3 variant, as shown in an official promo video that the company put up for G3 Beat launch.

At the end of the spot, LG showcases the entire G3 finally, including the G3, the G3 Beat, and the previously unknown LG G3 Stylus. The device features a large stylus that fits into a slot on the left-hand rear side of the device, and, while it’s hard to tell from the image, appears to be larger than the 5.5-inch G3. The G Pro 2, for reference, features a 5.9-inch display.

That’s all the info we can glean from the video; we’ve reached out to LG about the G3 Stylus, but we don’t expect the company to comment on an announced device.

The G3 Stylus could be right around the corner – LG surely wants to steal some of the thunder of the Note 4, which is expected to launch at IFA on September 3, so the G3 Stylus will likely land before the end of August.
