We’ve seen quite a few odd marketing moves in our time, but this hookup between LG and the Vienna Boys’ Choir has to be one of the most …interesting.
LG announced today that its upcoming new flagship, the L G2, will come preloaded with “sounds recorded exclusively” by the Vienna Boys’ Choir, which, in case you don’t know your boy choirs, is one of the oldest and finest institutions of its kind.
According to the press release embedded below, “LG worked closely with the choir to create a series of unique harmonic sounds including nine ringtones and five notifications and alarms.” Does that mean that we’ll get to wake up to the “celestial voices” of a dozen Austrian boys? Your guess is as good as mine.
It isn’t the first time LG has partnered with famous musicians to provide unique ringtones for their devices. Ennio Morricone, the great Spaghetti western film composer, signed a similar deal in 2010.
Coincidentally or not, the five centuries old choir has been facing some financial difficulties as of late, and hopefully this deal with LG will help it survive for another half of millennium.
I’ll leave you with a sample of the Vienna Boys’ Choir art:
